Let’s talk about something I see way too often in the permanent makeup world: judging someone else’s brows.
You see a photo online and immediately think, “I don’t like those.” Maybe they’re darker than you would choose. Maybe they’re more defined, more dramatic, more natural, more arched, or simply different from your personal taste.
But here’s the thing:
Just because you don’t like someone’s brows doesn’t mean they’re bad brows.
And it certainly doesn’t automatically mean the artist did a bad job.
Beauty Is Subjective
Permanent makeup is just that — personal.
Every client has their own idea of what makes them feel beautiful. Some people want soft, fluffy, natural-looking brows. Others love a bold, defined brow. Some want a subtle enhancement, while others want to wake up every morning with brows that look polished and put together.
There is no single brow style that is universally “correct.”
What you consider too dark might be exactly what another person wanted.
What you consider too bold might make someone else feel absolutely gorgeous.
What you would never choose for yourself could be the exact look that gives someone else a huge confidence boost.
Different does not mean bad.
Its not your face
One of the most important things to remember is that you aren’t the person wearing those brows.
The person is.
They chose that shape. They chose that style. They sat in the artist’s chair and discussed their goals. And hopefully, they left feeling confident, beautiful, and happy with their decision.
And isn’t that the goal?
Permanent makeup isn’t about creating the same brow on every person. It’s about creating brows that complement that individual person, their features, their preferences, and their lifestyle.
There Is More Than One “Right” Way
As artists, we all have different styles, techniques, and aesthetics.
Some artists specialize in ultra-natural brows. Others create beautifully defined powder brows. Some clients love one artist’s work and another client may prefer something completely different.
That doesn’t necessarily make one artist better than the other.
It means their artistic styles are different.
Think about hair, makeup, tattoos, clothing, or even home decor. We don’t all like the same things — and that’s okay!
Imagine walking into a salon and telling someone their haircut is terrible simply because you wouldn’t wear it.
It doesn’t work that way.
So why do we sometimes treat permanent brows as though there is only one acceptable style?
Before You Say “Bad Brows…”
The next time you see a set of permanent brows online that isn’t your personal style, take a second before judging them.
Ask yourself:
Are they actually poorly done, or are they simply not what I would choose?
Those are two very different things.
There are legitimate concerns that can indicate poor work — such as inappropriate placement, poor technique, significant asymmetry, problematic color choices, or damage to the skin.
But simply thinking “Those are too dark for me” or “I don’t like that shape” doesn’t make them bad brows.
It makes them different from your preference.
Let People Feel Beautiful
At the end of the day, that’s what beauty should be about.
If someone looks in the mirror and feels beautiful because of their brows, let them feel beautiful.
You don’t have to love someone else’s brows.
You don’t have to choose that style for yourself.
You don’t even have to understand why they chose that look.
But you can respect that they love them.
Because beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all — and neither are brows.
So let’s stop judging other people’s brows simply because they’re different from our own personal taste.
Your perfect brow might not be my perfect brow. And that’s exactly how it should be.
