One of the most common questions people ask before getting their eyebrows microbladed is: “How long does microblading last?”
The answer isn’t exactly the same for everyone. Microblading is considered a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo, and how long your brows remain visible depends on your skin, lifestyle, skincare routine, and individual healing process.
At Baltimore Beauties in Lutherville, Maryland, we want clients to understand not only how long microblading can last, but also why their results may fade differently from someone else’s.
How Long Can You Expect Microblading to Last?
Microblading generally fades gradually over time rather than disappearing all at once.
For many clients, the brows can remain visible for approximately 1–3 years, but there is significant individual variation.
Some clients may notice their brows fading sooner, while others may retain pigment for longer. Your skin type is one of the biggest factors affecting how your microblading heals and fades as well as what type of pigment was used, the technique the artist used (whether they went too deep), the artists skill set. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, use tanning beds, or don’t consistently protect your skin from the sun, your cosmetic tattoo may fade faster.
Using sunscreen around your brows once they have fully healed can help protect the surrounding skin and pigment.
3. Your Skincare Routine
Certain skincare products and treatments can accelerate the fading of cosmetic tattoo pigment.
Ingredients and treatments that increase exfoliation or cell turnover may affect how long your brows remain visible.
These can include certain acids, retinoids, chemical peels, and other exfoliating treatments.
Always tell your skincare provider that you have permanent makeup before receiving treatments around your brows.
4. Your Lifestyle
Lifestyle can also affect pigment retention.
Frequent sweating, swimming, sun exposure, and certain skincare habits may contribute to faster fading.
This doesn’t mean you need to avoid these activities forever. It simply means that your l
